To date, more than 50 percent of the UK’s adult population has received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. The Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines have been approved for use in the UK and millions of vaccine doses have been secured. People are urged to book their vaccine appointments as soon as they are eligible.

Who is eligible for the Covid vaccine?

The Covid vaccine is currently being offered to all people in the top nine priority groups.

This includes:

  • People aged 50 or over
  • People at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
  • Eligible frontline health or social care workers
  • People who have a condition that puts them at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
  • People who have a learning disability
  • People who are a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus

Anyone who is in one of these priority groups is invited to book their appointments via the dedicated NHS vaccine appointment webpage.

The Government is aiming to vaccinate all people within the top nine priority groups by mid-April.

People in the top nine priority groups are thought to make up 99 percent of people most at risk from severe illness or death from Covid-19.

The Government is aiming to offer a first vaccine dose to the entire adult population by the end of July 2021.

The next group in line for a Covid vaccine is the over-40s.

However, the Government has said it will prioritise vaccinating people in the priority groups before moving onto this group.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “We are going to do whatever it takes to reach all those in the most vulnerable groups who haven’t come forward yet before we move on to the next cohort, which is people in their 40s.

“Before we forge ahead I want us to be confident that we’ve done everything we can to protect those most in need of protection and we will do all we can and do everything necessary to deliver the supplies that are contractually committed to protecting people in this country.”

How do you change your Covid vaccine appointment?

People are being asked to attend their vaccine appointments, but if they are not able to they should reschedule it so the slot can be used by someone else.

It is also important to reschedule the appointment to make sure the vaccine does not go to waste.

You can book, change and cancel Covid vaccine appointments via the NHS vaccine webpage HERE.

You will be asked for your NHS number to access your vaccine booking.

Failing this, you will be asked for other personal details to find your booking, such as your name and date of birth.

From here, you can cancel your vaccine appointment and book a new one.

People will need to change their vaccine appointments if they have to self-isolate after testing positive for Covid-19 or being a contact of someone who tests positive.
