Covid cases have continued to fall in the UK since the introduction of a third national lockdown. But everyone should still self-isolated and get tested if they develop any of the key coronavirus warning signs. You could even be at risk of the infection if you have diarrhoea, it’s been revealed.
Covid vaccines are still being rolled out across the country, with more than five million people already receiving both doses of the jabs.
More than 30 million people have been given at least one dose of the vaccine.
But if you develop any key warning signs of coronavirus, you should still stay at home to avoid spreading the infection further.
It’s now been claimed that “a reasonable proportion” of COVID-19 patients develop diarrhoea.

Patients that develop diarrhoea are more at risk of being hospitalised with the infection, warned the Covid Symptom Study App.
It’s one of the earliest warning signs of coronavirus, and usually builds in intensity over the first week, it said.
Most people with diarrhoea usually have symptoms for two to three days, but some people have still reported having watery stools for up to seven days.
Between 20 and 30 percent of all adults with Covid reported diarrhoea as one of their symptoms.

What does diarrhoea feel like for coronavirus?
Diarrhoea caused by Covid is similar to the type of diarrhoea that’s usually linked to an upset stomach, warned the app.
Many people may develop similar symptoms if they have norovirus or rotavirus.
The researchers believe the virus causes diarrhoea by invading cells in the gut.
But, crucially, the virus can be passed to other people through stools contamination, so it’s really important to always wash down any surfaces after using the toilet, if you know you’ve got Covid.
“Data from millions of ZOE Covid Symptom Study app contributors has shown that diarrhoea can be a symptom of COVID-19,” it said.
“Even though diarrhoea is a less well-known symptom of COVID-19, it affects a reasonable proportion of people during their illness.
“Diarrhoea isn’t a very common symptom of COVID-19 but the likelihood of having it increases with age.
“In adults, most of the time diarrhoea comes alongside fatigue and headaches.”
But just because you have diarrhoea, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you coronavirus.
In the UK, you only need to get tested for Covid if you develop a high fever, a new, continuous cough, or a loss of smell or taste.
You should book a Covid test as soon as you develop any of the key symptoms.
Self-isolate at home until you receive your test results. If it comes back positive, you should remain isolated for at least 10 days.
