HIMSS21 tech news: Secure telehealth connections, remote diabetes care with Fitbit

Kajeet, a vendor of wireless connectivity and software and hardware solutions for controlled Internet access, has debuted Kajeet Connected Health, an Internet of Things (IoT) solution designed to enable the secure and reliable delivery of telemedicine services.

The global telemedicine market is expected to reach $397 billion by 2027, according to Fortune Business Insight. To support a large shift to remote patient care, Kajeet developed Connected Health to help power telemedicine solutions.

With Connected Health, users gain access to secure private network integrations with major cellular carriers, ensuring a reliable connection in any location while keeping sensitive patient data safe, the vendor said. The solution includes device procuring and provisioning on Kajeet’s Sentinel IoT management platform.

“Telemedicine adoption continues to explode, proving to be an effective and efficient delivery model of care,” said Daniel J.W. Neal, chairman, CEO and founder of Kajeet. “However, to ensure lasting adoption, network and device security and reliability are critical.”

Kajeet is in HIMSS21 booth 1521.

LifeScan and Fitbit partner for diabetes care

LifeScan, a blood glucose monitoring company serving more than 20 million people with diabetes, and popular mobile device company Fitbit are collaborating to offer people with diabetes a more complete view of how lifestyle factors like daily activity, nutrition and sleep can impact blood glucose levels, while also providing tools that can help lead to healthy lifestyle changes, the companies said.

“Diabetes is one of the fastest growing health challenges of the 21st century, and we believe that equipping people with new and convenient approaches to tracking diet, activity weight and blood glucose is a critical component in effectively changing the course of the disease,” said Dr. Elizabeth Holt, head of global medical, clinical and safety at LifeScan.

“Connecting OneTouch blood glucose monitoring data with Fitbit wellness tools and insights is an important step in guiding patients to healthy lifestyle choices that promote improvement in health outcomes,” she added.

LifeScan’s OneTouch Reveal app uses a cloud-based digital ecosystem to deliver a combination of data, technology and insights for improved diabetes management, with the ability to link people to healthcare providers, the company said.

Through this collaboration, people will receive a Fitbit Inspire 2 and access to Fitbit Premium, which provides guided programs, hundreds of workouts, mindfulness content, a wellness report and more personalized insights in the Fitbit health metrics dashboard. The aim is to help people with diabetes move more, manage stress, sleep better and eat well.

People will be able to sync the OneTouch Reveal and Fitbit apps so that OneTouch blood glucose data can be viewed alongside metrics tracked by Fitbit. This gives people the choice to access their information across both apps.
