Madonna Just Got Her First Tattoo at 62
Madonna is so cool, it's nearly impossible to believe that she's never had any tattoos before now. But it's true; the 62-year-old pop legend just got her first-ever tattoo and documented the whole thing on Instagram. "Inked for The Very First Time," she captioned an Instagram slideshow on December 8. Most celebrities would pay a visit to an artist like Dr. Woo for elaborate roses or angels or something like that, but Madonna opted for the Shamrock Social Club, an old-school tattoo parlor in West Hollywood. There, she got her wrist tattooed with six itty-bitty letters. It might not sound like a big deal, but the meaning behind the tattoo is far deeper than you'd think.
The letters L, R, D, M, S, E in a slim, typewriter-like font are now emblazoned on Madonna's wrist forever — and if you're a big fan of hers, we don't need to tell you what those letters stand for. Each is the first initial of one of her six children: Lourdes, Rocco, David, Mercy, Stella, and Estere. Followers immediately picked up on the reference and flooded the singer's comments with compliments.
"Love the tribute to your kids," one person writes. Another says, "All your children’s initials…beautiful!" Some are disappointed in Madonna's choice to get a tattoo (even though it has nothing to do with them), but applaud the tribute nonetheless: "First for everything but, very beautiful and a symbol of love and pride of your children," one commenter writes.
The only question left to ask is: Will this be Madonna's first and only tattoo? Or will she get that undeniable itch to get more? And in that case, what could be next on her tattoo roster? Only time will tell, but if this does end up being her only tattoo, we can't deny that it's a pretty damn good one.
