Proving that you have been vaccinated may be necessary if you wish to travel abroad in the future. There have even been suggestions that Covid passports may become mandatory to gain entry to venues such as festivals and pubs. So how can you prove that you have been vaccinated?

As the world slowly starts to recover from the pandemic proof of vaccination is likely to become essential for travellers.

To be considered fully vaccinated Brits will need to provide official confirmation that they have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine.

A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine, although the Johnson and Johnson jab which has recently been approved for use in the UK will only require one shot.

How can I prove my vaccine status?

One of the easiest ways to prove you have been vaccinated is to download the NHS app.

The app allows Brits to access a range of NHS services on their smartphone or tablet.

NHS Digital has added proof of vaccination to the app so if you have had your jab, you can prove this through the app.

This will allow you to easily provide proof of vaccination at border controls.

How do I use the app?

To use the app you will need to be registered with a GP in England.

Once you have signed up you can use the app to view a summary of your medical records, make appointments and request repeat prescriptions.

The app now includes a section confirming your Covid vaccine status which is designed to be shown on request.

You can download a PDF copy of your Covid status or request for it to be emailed to you through the app.

Make sure that you download the right app, the NHS app which provides proof of vaccine status is different from the NHS COVID-19 app used for contact tracing and signing into venues.

The app can only be used by those over 13, but as this age group is not currently eligible for the vaccine they will not need it to show their vaccine status.

Other ways to prove you have been vaccinated

The NHS app can be downloaded on any smartphone or tablet, but how can you provide proof of vaccination if you do not have a smartphone?

If can’t download the app there are other ways to prove you have been vaccinated.

Proof of vaccination can also be confirmed through the NHS website or with a paper letter.

You can request a letter by calling 119 at least five days after you have had your second dose.

It will come as a relief to many that you can show with ease proof of vaccination as international travel looks set to open up this summer.

Those travelling abroad from England can use the NHS app, a letter or the NHS website to show they’ve had the Covid vaccine.

Brits looking to jet off for a summer holiday should take note that few countries currently accept proof of vaccine as a condition of entry at border control.

Many will still require travellers to provide a negative Covid test and you may have to quarantine upon arrival depending on your destination’s travel restrictions.
