My little boy didnt get out of bed on Christmas Day due to a deadly disease
NHS video shows signs and symptoms of leukaemia
Mum Danielle, 33, first thought her little boy Kian had caught a virus, as he felt very tired.
Only six at the time, he soon developed an unusual rash and bruise-like marks.
Danielle said: “Kian spent Christmas Day in bed as he was so fatigued. I Googled his symptoms and leukaemia came up.
“I called my dad and said, ‘I think Kian has leukaemia’ and he told me not to be daft.”
Unable to shake the feeling that something was really wrong, Danielle took Kian to Grange Hospital on December 27, 2021.

Young Kian was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).

Blood Cancer UK said this “fast-developing” type of blood cancer builds up in the bone marrow.
Around 800 people are diagnosed with ALL in the UK each year, with symptoms including:
- Extreme tiredness
- Unexplained bruising
- Unexplained bleeding
- Weight loss
- Lengthy infections
- Swollen glands.
“Our lives changed in an instant,” Danielle told Wales Online. “From that moment on, we were in and out of hospital for months for Kian’s treatment.”

Kian had intensive chemotherapy for eight months in addition to steroid treatment.
Now he is on maintenance treatment and will continue chemotherapy until 2025.
“He is fighting this battle with his head held high,” said Danielle. “Cancer has picked the wrong child.”
Kian has been chosen as the face of TK Maxx and Cancer Research UK’s Give Up Clothes For Good campaign in Wales.
Danielle said: “Raising money for Cancer Research UK for children and young people is so vital.
“Kian and I will be having a good clear out at home to find clothes and things to donate. And we hope our experience will inspire others to do the same.”
Each donated bag could be worth up to £25 to help support research into children’s and young people’s cancers.
Mum Danielle said: “[People’s] unwanted items really could save lives.”
