What It's Like to Be A Family Physician Right Now
Dr. Kristamarie Collman is a big believer in morning routines. As a board-certified family physician and the founder of her own practice, Prōse Medical, she likes to start her days off early in order to get in some solid time to herself before she starts seeing patients — whether it be virtually or in the office. Just a few things Collman does after getting out of bed at 5:45 a.m.: journal for 10 to 15 minutes, meditate, and have some tea with lemon and ginger, which she says she loves because it helps with digestion.
She then does her daily skin-care routine, which includes CeraVe's Foaming Cleanser with hyaluronic acid, La Roche-Posay's Vitamin C Serum, Neutrogena's Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer, and EltaMD's UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 (all Allure favorites, might we add).
When it comes to makeup, Collman likes to keep it incredibly natural with glowing skin and lush lashes and brows. "I think my patients appreciate a little glow," she says. For her complexion, she uses a Becca's Under Eye Brightening Corrector under her eyes, followed by a blend of Nars's Radiant Creamy Concealer and BareMinerals BarePro Full Coverage Concealer on any spots or discoloration. She then applies Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer and adds a touch of Nars's Liquid Blush in Orgasm to the apples of her cheeks. And on her brows, she uses Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil for some extra definition.
Hair-wise, Collman relies on products from Briogeo and Shea Moisture to keep her faux locs well-conditioned. While she used to wear her hair straight fairly often when she was younger, Collman says she's come to embrace and love her natural curls and is so glad that we're in a place where Black hairstyles are finally becoming accepted in the workplace.
Spirituality is also a very important aspect of Collman's life, and for this reason, she always makes time to pray or read her Bible before heading to work. "Faith has been such a pivotal part of my journey," she tells Allure. "Through all of the trials and tribulations I've had to go through, I was only able to find strength with God and having those moments to talk to him and pray. My favorite Bible verse is 'God is within her. She will not fall.'"
Once she's done getting ready, Collman starts seeing her patients for the day — teenagers, infants, elders, you name it. "I love it because you really get to be part of the family dynamic," she says.
