Nutrients are key to supporting healthy hair growth and potentially preventing hair loss. Consultant dermatologist and founder of Dr. Ophelia Comsecutical Skin and hair care, Dr. Ophelia Veraitch spoke with Express.co.uk about hair loss.
She said: “The key to preventing hair loss is to first make sure your nutrients are at an optimal level.
“My hair vitamins are ideal for doing this.”
Dr. Ophelia’s vitamins contain levels of nutrients she claims are ideal for helping prevent hair loss.
The product contains a morning vitamin and evening vitamin.
The morning dose contains 14mg of iron, 100mg of vitamin C, 15ug of vitamin B12, 200ug of folic acid and 55ug of selenium.
The evening dose contains 1000 IU of Vitamin D3 and 18mg of zinc.
What vitamins and nutrients are best for hair growth
Protein
Eating enough protein is key for hair growth, as it is for nail growth.
Thankfully, most Westerners eat enough protein to sustain hair growth.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is used to support human cells and also creates sebum, which keeps the hair on the head healthy.
It is key to get healthy levels of this vitamin, too much and too little can cause hair loss.

B vitamins

Vitamin C
This vitamin helps the body create collagen and absorb iron, both of which keep hair healthy. It also helps prevent free radical damage, which can prevent healthy hair growth.
Vitamin E
A study found those with hair loss who took vitamin E experienced a 34.5 percent increase in hair growth.

Iron
Iron deficiency is a major cause of hair loss, as iron helps carry oxygen around the body to support most bodily functions.
Zinc
Zinc helps oil glands work, which supports hair follicles.
However, like vitamin A, too much zinc can also cause hair loss.
The hair loss expert suggested a specific therapy if hair loss runs in your family.
She said: “Also if there’s a family history of hair loss, for example, if your parents or even one sibling has it, then looking for early treatment is important. PRP can be a good way of doing this.”
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy sees a person’s blood injected into their scalp after being treated.
The aim of the treatment is to trigger natural hair growth.
However, there is not a proven link between the treatment and hair growth, although some claim to have seen results.
