Delta Goodrem health: Singer reveals how health complication nearly ended her career
Delta Goodrem, 35, is an Australian singer, songwriter, and actress. She had one of the highest-selling Australian albums of all time, with over four million copies sold. The singer recently revealed how her singing career came precariously close to ending due to paralysis in her tongue.
Delta Goodrem has taken to social media to reveal that she lost ability to control her speech while making her forthcoming album, ‘Bridge Over Troubled Dreams.’
Goodrem revealed that her new single, ‘Paralysed,’ was written following the literal paralysis of her tongue.
The songbird posted the confronting footage to Instagram back in August, which showed her slurring her words and unable to control her speech following the procedure two years ago.
She could barely communicate due to paralysis of a nerve in her tongue.
The songstress revealed for the first time publicly that she had her salivary gland removed back in October 2018.
A complication during surgery saw one of her tongue nerves damaged, impacting her speech.
Delta said in the clip: “I’m just trying to stay positive.
“My livelihood is my sound.
“I’m trying to decide whether this is getting any better or not. It doesn’t feel like it.”
Some of the rehabilitation treatments used for people with paralysis include:
Physical therapy uses treatments such as heat, massage, and exercise to stimulate nerves and muscles.
Occupational therapy concentrates on ways to perform activities of daily living.
Mobility aids include manual and electric wheelchairs and scooters.
Supportive devices include braces, canes, and walkers.
Assistive technology such as voice-activated computers, lighting systems, and telephones.
Adaptive equipment such as special eating utensils and controls for driving a car.
Delta went through months of rehabilitation, including daily speech therapy, to get her voice back.
Other footage shows the Born to Try singer practising vowel and consonant sounds.
“As a songwriter, I write songs from my own experiences,” she added.
“I tell stories about the path I have been on, wondering if anyone else has been on a similar journey,” she wrote in a caption.
“The first step in writing this new record was a personal transformation that I didn’t know I needed in my life.”
“It’s been a strange process not actually sharing it straight away.
“But I just didn’t know if I was ready yet,” Delta admitted in a clip shared to her Instagram Stories.
“I share this with you as an artist sharing where the poetry in this song [Paralyzed] comes from, and as a human who deeply feels and understands that everyone has their own story and their own challenges,’ she continued.
