Hair loss can be a natural part of the ageing process, and most of the time, it’s nothing to worry about. We can even lose up to 100 hairs on our bodies every day, without even noticing. But you could prolong the life of your locks by regularly massaging your scalp, it’s been revealed.

Losing your hair could be caused by a number of different conditions, said the NHS.

Stress, weight loss, or even an iron deficiency can lead to some form of hair loss.

But there are some home treatments you can use that might help to prevent some types of hair loss, including alopecia.

One of the easiest ways to stimulate hair growth at home is to massage your own scalp, it’s been claimed.

Simply massaging the top of your head encourages new hair growth, according to medical website Medical News Today.

It helps to stimulate blood flow to the scalp, which subsequently leads to the growth of new hair, it said.

Simply massaging your scalp for four minutes every day could improve the thickness of your hair within six months.

If you don’t have a massage device at home, you can just use the pads of your fingertips to increase blood flow to the top of your head.

“Massaging the scalp helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp, which could help encourage hair growth,” it said.

“A small Japanese study found that men who massaged their scalps for four minutes per day with a scalp massage device had thicker hair after six months.

“People can use the pads of their fingertips to massage the scalp in gentle circles.

“Devices to massage the scalp are also available in drug stores and online.”

Alternatively, you could also lower your risk of hair loss by using certain gels or emollients on your scalp.

Garlic gel is one of the best natural treatments for hair loss, according to University of California, Irvine researchers.

It contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which are crucial for protecting against further hair loss.

Garlic is also rich in vitamins B and C, as well as manganese and selenium, all of which promote healthy hair.

Losing your hair isn’t necessarily something to be worried about.

But on rare occasions, it could be a tell-tale sign of another medical condition.

You should speak to a doctor if you suddenly start losing your hair, or if you develop bald patches.

There are other treatments for hair loss – including transplants – but they aren’t available on the NHS, and you’ll need to pay for them.
