Arthritis is a common condition that can affect people of all ages, according to the NHS. But you could lower your chances of developing painful arthritis symptoms by regularly taking ginger supplements, it’s been claimed.
Arthritis pain can lead to a number of debilitating symptoms that patients will want to try and avoid.
The condition can make life more difficult when carrying out simple, everyday tasks.
But, just some simple lifestyle changes could go a long way in helping to prevent arthritis symptoms from flaring up.
One of the easiest ways to lower your risk of painful joints is add more ginger to your diet.
Ginger may help to reduce some of your arthritis pain, according to the Arthritis Foundation.
It’s a natural anti-inflammatory which has similar painkilling-properties as ibuprofen, it said.
Inflammation is a key cause of arthritis flare-ups, which is why ginger may be effective in relieving pain.
Both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis patients could benefit from taking ginger supplements, it added.

“Ginger has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties similar to ibuprofen and COX-2 inhibitors,” said the foundation.
“In a 2012 study, a specialised ginger extract reduced inflammatory reactions in rheumatoid arthritis as effectively as steroids did.
“Earlier studies showed that taking a certain extract four times daily reduced osteoarthritis pain in the knee after three months of treatment.
“Another taken twice daily worked about as well as ibuprofen taken three times daily for hip and knee osteoarthritis pain.”
You could also lower your risk of arthritis pain by regularly taking turmeric supplements, it’s been claimed.
Turmeric could relieve your arthritis symptoms due to its active ingredient, curcumin.
Curcumin protects against swelling and inflammation by blocking certain enzymes.
Patients that regularly take the supplements have reported long-term improvements to their symptoms.
Common arthritis symptoms include joint pain, inflammation, and restricted movement.
There are two key types of arthritis in the UK; osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis to be diagnosed in the UK – around nine million people are believed to have osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis, meanwhile, is an auto-immune disease that has been diagnosed in about 400,000 individuals.
